SOOP SEASON!
![]() Our Vision: Serving the needs of our community in the name of Christ |
SOOP season will begin this fall. SOOP volunteers can now serve this fall, the time of the year that many consider the best months to be in Arizona. The time available will be from November 8 through December 15, 2023. You can volunteer as a family or enjoy a getaway with your friends while residing in our guest house as you serve in our community and explore the many sites our beautiful state has to offer. We invite you to contact one of the names listed below if you would like to join us during this time. We will take reservations until September 1. |

Welcome Back, Mel and Dottie! The HSC Board invites you to join us in welcoming back Mel and Dottie Hathaway as Directors/Hosts for the 2023-24 SOOP Season! When they answered “yes” to the call in 2022-23, following Mel’s retirement from the pastorate, they left their home in Kidron, Ohio for six months, to come to a place and program, sight unseen! It takes deep faith and trust in God, in each other, the church, HSC Board members and the SOOP program to make this kind of commitment. Mel and Dottie were exceptional in meeting the demands of preparing the guesthouse and facilities for arrival of SOOPers, organizing the kitchen and community life, connecting with local ministries and scheduling volunteer hours, and getting to know the Trinity Mennonite Church family. It requires flexibility, a sense of humor, commitment to service, and the challenge of living in community. Living together in community is a unique aspect of the Phoenix SOOP program, and a strong drawing card for volunteers. Whether it is eating around the roomy dining table, taking turns at cooking, enjoying Dottie’s delicious lunches after tiring work experiences, playing table games, puzzling, going on picnics and outings, sharing bathrooms, laughing, singing, praying, having deep conversations, and working alongside one another, Phoenix SOOP is about experiencing community and relationship building. Welcome back, Dottie and Mel! |
