Black Friday Alternative Challenge: #OptOutside
This is a week of whiplash. Typical Americans will spend one day in thankfulness for all the goodness of life and before the sun sets, will begin a day of unprecedented consumer spending. Thanksgiving Day followed by Black Friday. As followers of Jesus this is an opportunity to model a different way.
For the past few years a small group from Journey at South Hutchinson has chosen to join the optoutside movement as an act of resistance against consumerism. On the Friday after Thanksgiving, they meet on the trails of local state parks to take in the sunrise, hike and immerse themselves in the beauty of God’s good world. To be in nature is to learn to appreciate what we can’t possess.
So we invite you to grab some friends, some people from your Community of Faith and spend time outdoors, continuing the practice of Thanksgiving!
