Journey Celebrates 85 years
On Sunday, October 15, Journey Mennonite Church celebrated 85 years of ministry with a gathering of members from their three campuses in the new multi-purpose gymnasium at South Hutchinson. The church began as a Sunday School outreach to children called Pershing Street Mission. It organized as Hutchinson Mission Mennonite Church in 1937 with 41 charter members. It was also a celebration of Howard Wagler’s 25 years of pastoral ministry. Journey has experienced an unusual longevity of pastorates. Their first pastor, Sanford King, served for 25 years. Their second pastor, Calvin King, served for 23 years. A chili feed, spoof trophies for all the pastors, and bounce houses for the kids rounded out the celebration.
