Orlando 2017: Love is a Verb
A number of persons from our congregations and conference were at Orlando last week for the biennial Mennonite Church USA convention and the Future Church Summit. The principal delegate business was the reconsideration of a resolution on Israel/Palestine that had been tabled two years ago in Kansas City. It underwent substantial revision in the succeeding two years, and was passed by almost unanimous affirmative vote of the delegates
The Future Church Summit involved about 700 persons who spent more than ten hours around tables and in open forum, thinking together about what our church might become as we maintain our Christian witness and outreach in an Anabaptist perspective. All of us are encouraged to read as much as possible about the process, the outcome and the next steps, and to continue the discernment process of being God’s church in our communities and our area conference. At the annual assembly of South Central Conference on July 21-22 at Hesston Mennonite Church, we will have some opportunity to become better informed about how our work together can be unifying and led by the Holy Spirit.
