SENT

Pleasant View Mennonite Church is doing a new thing in 2019. For the first time, a theme for the year has been chosen to help the congregation be more intentional in the practice of their faith and engagement of the surrounding communities. Pastor Jeff introduced the theme of “Sent” to the congregation during his “State of the Church” sermon February 3. “Sent” has its roots in Jesus’ words to his disciples as found in the later chapters of the Gospel of John. Twice, Jesus tells his disciples “as the Father has sent me, I am sending you”. As a way of tracking the congregation’s “sentness”, individuals are invited to turn in volunteer hours each Sunday during the offering time. A running total of volunteer hours are listed each week in the bulletin. ‘Volunteer hours’ are broadly defined as anything done for someone else in which one doesn’t receive financial compensation. The ultimate hope in choosing the theme of “Sent” is that God will use it and the tracking of volunteer hours to spur the congregation on to share Christ through their lives, in their communities and to the world.
