The following is from Isaac Landis, Pastor of Youth and Faith Formation from Whitestone Mennonite Church, about their summer MYF mission trip.
On June 14th, nine youth and six youth leaders from Whitestone Mennonite Church traveled to Alaska for a 10 day trip of serving and sight-seeing! The main purpose of the trip was serving for a week at Victory Bible Camp in Glacier View, AK.
After several summers of cancelled or scaled back trips because of COVID, we decided to take advantage of our financial flexibility and more intimate group size. We also have some personal connections in Alaska, with Michael Oyer as the Service Adventure unit leader in Anchorage, and Matt and Jenae Yoder on staff at Victory Bible Camp. Youth Pastor Isaac Landis, and youth leaders Corey and Abby Regehr have also spent time at Victory in the past, so the combination of these factors gave the trip a personal connection that made this type trip attractive.
Highlights of the trip include the amazing scenery, a marine wildlife tour, hiking on a glacier, and the midnight sun! Our work at the camp was focused on cleaning and sprucing up the main lodge in preparation for their upcoming 75 th Anniversary celebration happening in August. We pulled weeds, trimmed trees, scraped and painted trim on the lodge and re-roofed another building. This trip was an incredible experience as we got to see God’s amazing creation and had the opportunity to serve at a camp that touches many lives.
