Youth Initiated Service at Pleasant View
The youth at Pleasant View Mennonite outside of Hydro, Oklahoma are encouraged to initiate activities on their own. Recently, they chose to buy and put together relief kits for MCC. Spurred by a report from Kate Mast, who grew up at Pleasant View, the youth decided that they too wanted to help build relief kits. The youth each brought $10, which totaled $130. The congregation then matched their money. Next, the youth were divided into teams and went to town to purchase material for the kits. They decided to make it a competition, but not a race. Instead, they tried to spend as much of the money they had been given without going over. Three of the four groups each were less than a $1 away from spending all their money. Afterward, they went back to the church and put the materials in trash sacks so they could be taken to the MCC office in North Newton. The students enjoyed the process and knowing that they were helping share Christ’s love with others.
