Brownies keep on giving!
Journey Mennonite is spending the month of June in a series on Neighboring! As a way to encourage the congregation to cultivate relationships with their neighbors, they purchased 250 boxes of brownie mix and gave them away in their worship gatherings. The idea was for Journeyers to bake the brownies and take them to their neighbors as a way of creating space for conversation.
One family took brownies to their next door neighbors who they’ve been learning to know. They were invited in to talk for a bit before returning home. When they got home, they heard a knock at their door. The
same neighbor was standing there with 2 pieces of pie! The generosity of sharing food had already sparked more neighborliness! One week later, the neighbors came back with two whole pies! The brownies are the gift that keep on giving! Something so simple as a pan of brownies created three chances for this family to interact with their neighbors in just a week’s time! May we be aware that all around us people are hungry, for brownies, but more so, for relationships.
